A client noted that 3-star chefs give you food quickly and with high quality, and so (he said) should software teams.
But the key question is where that quality is needed. You probably don’t care about the quality of your “about” page, and the chef doesn’t care (as much) about the quality of the staff toilet (it needs to be adequate but not gold plated).
So first ask yourself what business gain you would get from software quality—retaining current clients, gaining new customers, improving referrals, keeping a regulator happy? When you know that, you can concentrate your quality efforts in the key areas, just like the chef focusses on “front of house” not the dishwasher.
Once again, avoid betterism at all costs!!
