I’m astonished that so many of you are still struggling to set “quarterly” objectives, with July nearly at an end–get over it and finish already!
Whether you call them OKRs or goals or targets, overcomplication and indecision are your enemies. Several clients asked me this week how they could get their objective-setting “right”; my message to them all was that “done is right”. Yes, in a perfect world your OKRs would cascade and every one would be measurable and some would stretch beyond your reach; but it’s much better to start in some direction and adjust as needed. Far too many of you have teams who are in perpetual “hold” waiting for a clear message from the top. Wherever you sit in the organisation–take “adverse possession” if you have to–get messy, imperfect objectives out now, in time to make this sprint, this week, today a step forward.
